A Mother’s Credo: “I Believe in Love”

Mother’s Love by Natalie Holland

  • I believe that the LOVE we share with children can change the world!
  • I believe in the power of the “Good-Enough” Mommy! (There is no such thing as a perfect one. Stop looking for her in the mirror.)
  • I believe in the power of a long, DEEP breath (and a little perspective).
  • I believe in making one authentic connection per day with my children and husband.
  • I believe that the best “present” I can give to my children is my authentic presence.
  • I believe that I am my child’s first and best teacher!
  • I believe I am still my child’s favorite playmate.
  • I believe in giving myself and other mommies a break, because we’re all just doing our best.
  • I believe that when we let go of the fear of judgement, we can be our true selves.
  • I believe that our children are the true “windows” to our souls.
  • I believe that our children reflect our best and worst parts, like little mirrors, always teaching us how to be better people.
  • I believe that  a little down-time and a good nap every day help mommies and children to be their best selves.
  • I believe that children, like all people, just want to be seen and heard.
  • I believe in enjoying every enjoyable moment of parenting (and trying to laugh about the ones that suck).
  • I believe that moms are the most important and powerful people in the world!
  • I believe that while some powerful people might change the world by doing one important thing for millions of people, moms change the world by doing a million little things for one important person, and all out of TRUE LOVE!
  • I believe in a Mother’s Love to conquer all! All the toddler and teenage tantrums, all the sleepless nights and endless days, all the whiney times that induce “wine” times, all the skinned knees and not-so-skinny mom jeans, all the poopy panties and crappy days, all the snotty noses and snotty attitudes, all the spills and spectacles, all the kicks and kisses, all the broken toys and broken dreams, all the mishaps and all the mistakes, all the lessons we teach and all the lessons we learn, all the good and bad that come along our parenting journeys.
  • I believe, in the end, it all comes back to LOVE. I believe love is there all around us, even when we are not feeling it, and one of my favorite quote reminds me of this on tough days…I believe in love, even when not feeling it. I believe in the sun, even when it is not shining. I believe in God, even when God is silent.” These words were inscribed by a Jewish prisoner in a Nazi concentration camp. NowI don’t at all presume to compare a mother’s trials to those of a Holocaust prisoner, but this quote has always inspired me. And certainly, if the soul who wrote these words, can believe in love, even becoming a vessel for it, than surely a mother facing a rough day, week, or year, can too.

Do you believe?

{This post is part of my Monday “Moment for Mommy” series. Each Monday, there will be a little inspiration, a little “gift” for you…a little reminder to focus on yourself every now and then because like last week’s post said, “If Mama Ain’t Happy“. Check out all the comments on last week’s post as a portion of it was featured on the national site Mamapedia on Saturday…on mamapedia, and pass it along to another Mommy friend! Join me again next Monday, and in the meantime for more stories and ideas along the journey…}
